Fixing Common Email Problems Print

  • 0

Here are solutions to the most common email issues we see.

Cannot Send Emails

  • Make sure SMTP authentication is turned on in your email client.
  • Use the correct SMTP port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS).
  • Double-check your password.
  • Try using mail.yourdomain.com for both incoming and outgoing servers.

Cannot Receive Emails

  • Check your email quota. If it is full, delete old messages or increase the quota in cPanel.
  • Check your email client settings (IMAP/POP3, port 993 for SSL).
  • Look at your email forwarders - a bad forwarder setting can stop delivery.
  • Check your spam folder.

Emails Going to Spam

  • Set up SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for your domain (see our separate article on this).
  • Avoid spammy words in your subject lines and email content.
  • Ask people to mark your email as "Not Spam."

Forgot Your Password

Reset your email password in cPanel under Email Accounts. Click the Manage or Change Password option next to the email address.

Still Having Trouble?

If none of this helps, open a support ticket and include:

  • The exact error message you see
  • Your email client and version (for example, Outlook 2019, iPhone iOS 18, Gmail app)
  • Whether the problem is with sending, receiving, or both
