What Happens When Your Domain Expires
Domains don't just disappear the day they expire. There's a whole timeline of what happens, and you've got options at each stage.
Auto-Renewal
If you have auto-renew turned on (check your client area under Domains > My Domains), we'll attempt to charge your saved payment method 14 days before the expiration date. Make sure your card info is up to date.
If the payment fails, we'll send you a few reminder emails so you can update your billing info and manually renew.
Grace Period (Usually 30 Days)
If your domain expires, it enters a grace period that lasts 30 days from the expiration date. During this time:
- Your website and email will stop working (the domain won't resolve to your site).
- You can still renew at the normal price - no extra fees.
- Just go to your client area, find the expired domain, and click Renew.
Redemption Period (Usually 30 Days)
If the 30-day grace period passes without renewal, the domain moves into redemption status. This lasts another 30 days or so (exact timing depends on the extension). Things change here:
- You can still get the domain back, but there's a redemption fee (around RM 150 - 300 depending on the TLD) on top of the renewal price.
- The process takes 1 - 3 days because the registry has to process it manually.
- Contact our support team to start a redemption request.
What Happens After Redemption Ends
Once both the grace period and redemption period pass, the domain is released back to the public. Anyone can register it. At that point, we can't help you recover it - you'd have to register it fresh if it's still available (and it probably won't be).
Important Notes by Extension
- .com / .net / .org - 30-day grace, 30-day redemption (roughly).
- Check your specific TLD's policy in your client area or ask our support team.
Best Advice: Turn On Auto-Renew
Seriously. Most domain heartbreaks happen because someone forgot to renew. Set auto-renew, keep your payment method current, and you'll never have to think about it.
